So, last December two outstanding musicans got together for a little sing in Dublin.
Tim Minchin joined Duke Special on stage - and from what I heard and from the pictures I saw, it was as close to heaven as many of us non-heaven-believing people can ever hope to get.
Thrillingly, a Northern Ireland television station recently aired the concert, and a lovely person loaded it up on YouTube. So now we can ALL experience a tiny bit of the heavenly.
WATCH! And be AMAZED. :)
My husband and I went to London again, and we got back on Wednesday.
To say the trip was fantastic would be understating it. While this trip lacked the significance of being a trip overseas on my own, it included far more substance in that I met so many more of the people I've been getting to know online, and shared it all with my husband.
I won't be able to give this story the description it properly deserves, so I won't even try. Our planes were all on time, we found our hotel without any problems; we slept, we ate, we explored. We traveled by train to see some family, had dinner and birthday cake, and enjoyed a lovely evening. Next day, we met up with wonderful people, saw Tim Minchin perform from the best seats in the house, and were able to have a nice familiar chat with him after the show. Next day, more wonderful people, more exploring London, and then Russell Brand live that evening. A quiet day on Sunday, my birthday - after so much excitement, we needed a bit of rest. Monday was one more museum, and then meeting up with friends, and we saw Duke Special perform at the Proud Galleries in Camden.
Beloved friends whom I already miss and long to get back to - a city filled with so much history and life - and performers who made us laugh and touched our hearts. I really couldn't ask for a better birthday holiday.
Tomorrow my husband and I leave for London. My solo trip to the UK three months ago was so much fun - I took the trains all over southern England and to Wales. I met great people, and saw some absolutely fantastic shows.
This time, it'll be even more fun - not only will we get to see Tim Minchin live again (my husband will see him live for the first time), we'll also be seeing Russell Brand, and Duke Special. Plus, I'll be meeting up with a LOT more people - fabulous people I've met through the Angry-Feet forum (Tim Minchin's fans are, I must say, across-the-board wonderful people.)
Keep an eye here for my photo-updates... last time, I found it pretty easy to snap a picture with my iPhone and send it here. I hope to do that again, in addition to using my new little EEE PC to post more bloggy-type updates.
I will also be turning 35 while we're there... this whole trip is pretty much my gift, since normally we would be going someplace warm for our winter trip, and I managed to talk my poor suffering husband into letting me be a fangirl again for my birthday instead.
I really can't think of a better way to celebrate it. :)
Duke Special (who I will see performing in London in mid-January, so I know I shouldn't really whine about this) will be in New York on Jan. 27th and 28th. Of course, because I'll have just gotten back from London, and won't have any vacation time (or money) I'll be unable to see it.
If you (or anyone you know) will be anywhere in the vicinity of Joe's Pub or the Brooklyn Union Hall, you should attend.
